Background

Rio Carnival is one of the world's largest carnival celebrations, with samba schools competing in an elaborate parade competition. Each school is judged on ten specific categories including:

• Theme portrayal (enredo)

• Percussion section (bateria)

• Harmony

• Flow and spirit (evolução)

• Overall impression (conjunto)

• Floats and props (alegorias e adereços)

• Costumes (fantasias)

• Front commission (comissão de frente)

• Flag bearer couple (mestre-sala e porta-bandeira)

• Lyrics and melody (samba-enredo)

The Special Group (Grupo Especial) features the elite samba schools that compete for the championship title.

Resolution Criteria

This market will resolve to the samba school officially declared as the champion of Rio Carnival's Special Group competition for 2025. The winner will be announced on Ash Wednesday (March 5, 2025) at the Apotheosis Square (Sambadrome) when all judges' scores are tallied.

If there is a tie for first place, the market will resolve to both/all schools that share the championship. If the competition is canceled or no winner is declared, the market will resolve as N/A.

The champion and five runners-up will participate in the Champions' Parade scheduled for March 8, 2025.

Samba school performance can vary significantly from year to year based on their chosen theme, investment in costumes and floats, and preparation. Historical performance is not always indicative of future results, as schools may experience leadership changes, funding fluctuations, or creative breakthroughs that dramatically affect their standings.
