Updated resolution: I'll resolve a player as soon as they are signed or traded for according to credible media reports. I'll close all remaining players as false at the start of the first game (Kershaw yes holders, take note). Players who sign to a non-Dodgers team will resolve false. Players traded to a non Dodgers team will remain open until game 1.
Feel free to add answers. I will resolve NA any player added who is already a Dodger and who is not a free agent.
Update 2024-27-12 (PST): - I'll avoid making any trades on the players I'm about to resolve. (AI summary of creator comment)
Update 2025-05-01 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): - Ha-Seong Kim is an existing MLB player and therefore should be resolved as per the existing resolution criteria.
The Dodgers signed Hye-song Kim, who will be coming over from Korea for the first time this season.
Update 2025-22-01 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Official Source: Use MLB Transactions to verify signings and trades.
Kershaw Resolution Criteria:
If signed before Opening Day is listed on the transaction site, even if placed on the IL, resolve as Yes.
If an agreement is announced well before Opening Day, resolve as Yes unless there is reason to believe the signing won't occur before Opening Day.
If the signing date is close to Opening Day, wait to see if the transaction date is before Opening Day.
Transactions occurring on Opening Day should be resolved as False.
Update 2025-22-01 (PST): - Updated Resolution Criteria:
Players will be resolved as signed or traded regardless of whether they play in the first ten games. (AI summary of creator comment)
@Mactuary Just spent a bit of time looking for a solid official source. Let's go with https://www.mlb.com/transactions. If he's got one of those before opening day, even if they immediately stick him on the IL, that's a yes. Otherwise, no on opening day. If they announce that they're in agreement well before opening day, I'll resolve yes on announcement unless I can find reason to think they won't sign before opening day. If it's close, I'll wait to see if the date listed on the transaction list is before opening day or not.
Transaction on opening day... I think that should be a false, but let me know if there's something in the rules that means it should be a yes. I'll make the decision based on all the other roster rules that kick in "at the start of the season" like ILs.
@Mactuary yeah makes sense. Sorry for the change in resolution - I wasn't thinking about the "sign but not play" case when I made the original "if they play in the first ten games" criteria. Lessons learned for next market.
@JTBooth nah, totally legit. Kershaw was trading at like 90%, which is probably about right for odds of retirement. I'm getting out at good odds
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.lafbnetwork.com/los-angeles-dodgers/los-angeles-dodgers-news/nolan-arenado-prioritizes-dodgers/amp/ Arenado would apparently waive no-trade for the dodgers?
Edman is shortstop, get this supposed superstar out of here.
Generally though I don't think I believe in star shortstops? I haven't carefully checked but it seems like the value should be way better if you do fielding specialists at hard positions and tolerable sluggers at easy positions.
