@EBSnyder Okay, I looked for information about this. I found multiple sources reporting things that rhyme with the following:
His son, Chip Carter, confirmed his father died at his home in Plains, Georgia, at around 3:45pm local time.
Most people are awake at 3:45pm. Maybe he was taking a nap. Or maybe he was in a state that could not be described as completely awake or completely asleep.
@PaperBoy It looks like @infiniteErgodicity is still an active user and can probably choose how to resolve it.
The official Carter center statement doesn’t mention it being in his sleep. So I think this can resolve no https://www.cartercenter.org/news/pr/2024/statement-on-president-jimmy-carter-122924.html
@PaperBoy While "died peacefully" doesn't explicitly mean "died in your sleep," it often implies a death that occurred without significant pain or struggle, which is most commonly associated with passing away while asleep, as the person would likely be unaware of the moment of death; essentially, a calm and painless transition from life to death, usually during sleep.
@EBSnyder yeah that is a fair point. I still think we’d have to have evidence of someone saying he died in his sleep for this to resolve yes, though.
@EBSnyder hmm interesting. The byline says “with AP” but the official AP story doesn’t make mention of sleep. I can’t find any other sources that mention sleep. https://apnews.com/article/jimmy-carter-dies-18c198c20352c835bca3eec276020dd7
